It takes us a week to prepare and film each show. Before we start filming, we have a table reading, that’s when the actors sit round the table and read aloud to the director. I get the words for each new show on Wednesday night. I read through them at home at least twice. Then we prepare for the filming. On Monday we go through the show just in our ordinary clothes and the director looks at how we perform and where the camera should be. At this time, he isn’t worried about the stage or the lighting, these come later.

By Tuesday we know our words pretty well but if there are some that we don’t feel comfortable saying, we can talk to the writers and they’ll rewrite them for us. We also make sure on Tuesday that the jokes are working as it’s a sort of comedy drama and that the story is clear. Some days we get very tired, I have to eat and sleep well and keep healthy. Other days, when I don’t have many things to do, I have to wait around a lot. But I’m never the only one. There are always other actors waiting for their scenes too, so, I chat with them.

The show is always filmed in front of a real audience on Wednesday evenings. During the day we practice again but by 5 p.m. it’s time for a dinner break when everyone can relax briefly. Then at 5:30, while the audience is arriving, we get changed and visit the make-up department. We only have half an hour for all this but we still manage to have a quick joke together. At 6 p.m. the cameras start filming.
